Surrey

Surrey (8-4) now holds down the second-place position in the South Group, although Hampshire remains considerably close with 14 points. Despite Surrey's season beginning with poor performances, the team is incredibly strong lately with three wins out of their last five games, although the loss to Middlesex is pretty embarrassing, as it's the only win of the season for the bottom-dwelling squad.

Evans, among the top batsmen in the T20 Blast, is assisting Surrey in winning games comfortably. His 481 runs have mostly come from three outstanding games of 93, 85, and 118* but it's great to see him playing more consistently. Jacks is the No.2 batter with 468 runs, but he's been catching up to Evans quickly due to his 69 and 96 in recent games. Surrey needs Sam Curran to be more reliable, as there's clear talent there.

Although Surrey's bowling attack is robust, spinner Narine (16/346) and fast bowler Sam Curran (13/340) are the two causing the most difficulties for opposing batters. For the majority of the season, Curran was only a passable bowler, but his 5/26 performance against Somerset showed his potential. That said, there’s some worry about Surrey’s top bowlers, as both have been iffy to put it lightly. Narine has just two wickets in his last four matches, while Curran has one wicket in his previous three games.

Somerset

Somerset (10-2) has been utterly dominant this season, and it’ll be no fun to play them in any future match. There are a few key injuries to bowlers, but the signing of Ish Sodhi is enough to cover up the cracks. After all, winning three games in a row doesn’t happen by pure luck.

It's intriguing how Somerset is outperforming every other team, since it seems like a true collaborative effort. Every batsman is contributing when possible, but Smeed has grown and grown to become the No.1 guy on the team. His 404 runs stand out as the most impressive, as he has 66 and 78 in his last two games. Having Cohler-Kadmore (389) and Banton (328) as the next-highest scorers is almost unfair, as Somerset has such great batting depth.

Fast bowler Ben Green is tearing up the T20 Blast with an astonishing 25 wickets and only 358 runs allowed (ER 8.69), and it's obvious that Somerset relies heavily on Green to win games. However, there are a lot of bowlers to help Green, including Henry (17/271) and Davey (13/207). The loss of van der Merwe for a few games can hopefully be managed with Sodhi's presence.
