We are just about at the end of the Pakistan One Day Cup and things are looking pretty much settled. Regardless of the results of the few upcoming matches, not a lot is going to change as far as the playoff scenarios are concerned. The two teams placed at the bottom of the ladder are pretty much out of it unless something drastic happens in the remaining fixtures. Up next in the tournament, South Punjab is set to take on Northern Pakistan in what is expected to be a cracking contest. Both sides have so far struggled to get going and both would do well to avoid making a lot of mistakes. Northern (Pakistan)
Northern Punjab are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table and although they thoroughly deserve to be at the bottom, they have played better than what the numbers suggest. They came close to winning a few matches but managed to get only one win from a total of nine matches.
They no longer have a chance to get any higher on the ladder and regardless of what happens in this upcoming contest, Northern Punjab will finish at the bottom. Having said that, however, a win here could bring some smiles back on the faces of their fans and that is exactly what they will be aiming to do in this upcoming match.
Its been rather surprising to see Northern Punjab lose as many matches as they have despite having some of the excellent players available. The likes of Imad Wasim and Uman Amin have done well, but they would need the rest of the players to step up going forward. All Northern Pakistan will need to do is to play to their peak potential and if they are able to do that, getting past them is going to be incredibly difficult.

Southern Punjab
Southern Punjab may be placed at the fifth spot at the moment and qualification into the semis might look far away, they would know that they still have an outside chance to get to the semis. For that to happen, though, they will not only need to win big in this upcoming match, they will also need Central Punjab to lose their match by a big margin.
As it currently stands on the ladder, Southern Punjab are placed at the fifth spot with three wins and six losses, aggregating to six points in total. They have a poor net run rate of -0.605, which they would want to improve along with adding two important points to their current tally of six. A loss in the upcoming match, however, will have no consequence on the eventual standing for Southern Punjab.
On paper, Southern Punjab have a decent side that is packed with talent right throughout, but they certainly lack experience. We saw that becoming a big factor in a number of their outings and that is something they will want to take care of going forward. If South Pakistan can hold nerves in crunch situations, getting past them would be a very difficult job.

This match may be unlikely have a big impact on the standings, both sides would want to win here. Needless to say, Southern Punjab would want to make use of whatever outside chance they have to get into the next round. Northern Punjab, on the other hand, will want to end their tournament with a win. While Southern Punjab have done slightly better, Northern Punjab have a superior team, on paper and otherwise. Considering how the two sides have played, a bet on Northern Pakistan should be the way to go here.
