MLR vs BH Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 29, 2023

The BBL Knockout game between the Renegades and Heat is sure to be sizzling and one we can’t wait to see. The winner from this match will advance to the Challenger game against either the Scorchers or Sixers.
This will be the Renegades’ first match since the January 24th, when they defeated the Strikers convincingly and secured the third spot on the BBL ladder.
The Heat played their first playoff match by winning versus the Thunder, and were hugely impressive by scoring 203 runs. Heavy rain cut short the Thunder’s chances of batting, which meant Brisbane moved on to the next round.
MLR vs BH Team Previews
Melbourne Renegades
The Renegades had what we’d call an average season, as they finished 7-7 in the end. The team dealt well with injuries to Handscomb and Maddison, but most of the success is thanks to Aaron Finch. The star batter has scored 418 total runs (37 fours) and made 63* and 76* in his last two games.
The problem is that the Renegades rely too much on Finch to score major runs. The next best scorers are Sam Harper with 242 and Jonathan Wells with 231, which is a big drop-off from Finch’s runs. Harper hasn’t been good at all lately with only 12 runs in his last three matches, and Wells is iffy at best. Guptill was really poor this season with only 164 runs.
Bowling shouldn’t be a major issue as fast bowlers Tom Rogers (21 wickets) and Kane Richardson (12) are fantastic and can be relied upon, although they can have terrible games where they’ll take no wickets and give up far too many runs. These two will make the most trouble for the Heat batters if the bowling is in form.
Melbourne Renegades Playing 11
David Moody, Sam Harper, Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Martin Guptill, Jonathan Wells, Thomas Rogers, Fawad Ahmed, Corey Rocchiccioli, Will Sutherland, Matt Critchley.
Brisbane Heat
It seems odd that so many people doubted Brisbane, because no one should distrust a team with Aussie batting stars like Khawaja, Labuschagne, and Renshaw. Fortunately for the Heat, these three will still be available for the Renegades match before heading off to India for the Test series.
It would be fair to say that neither Khawaja nor Labuschagne has been particularly helpful in the BBL this season, but all that disappeared in this win over the Thunder with superb batting. Khawaja scored 94 from 55 deliveries, while Labuschagne was also great with 73 from 48.
We didn’t get to see much from the Heat bowlers, as only six overs were completed before the rain disrupted and ultimately abandoned the match. It would have been nice to see how Neser and Bazley performed in a high-stakes game, but we’ll have to wait for the Renegades. Both will be dependable, as Neser has been great lately with 4/35 against the Hurricanes (22 wickets overall).
Brisbane Heat Playing 11
Usman Khawaja, Josh Brown, Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw, Sam Hain, Jimmy Peirson, James Bazley, Michael Neser, Xavier Bartlett, Matthew Kuhnemann, Spencer Johnson.
MLR vs BH Toss Prediction
If Brisbane wins the toss, they should certainly choose to bat first and make a giant total. As we saw in the Thunder win, batting first is helpful if the weather turns bad.

Pitch and Conditions
Players usually like to bat first on this pitch, as it tends to slow down in the second innings. Plus, one side of the ground is a bit shorter and it’s common to see big scores here.
MLR vs BH Betting Tips
The Renegades have talent but are quite up and down this season, and even though they have beaten the Heat in the last three matchups, we still like the Heat in this matchup. Melbourne depends on Finch too much for the batting, and if he has a bad game, then there’s really no one else we trust on the Renegades.
The Heat must be jumping for joy that both Khawaja and Labuschagne can stick around for one more game, especially considering how amazing they played in the Thunder victory. If they play like this again and Neser bowls great, then Melbourne has no chance.
The odds display that Melbourne is the favourite, but betting on Brisbane will currently get you a better return and the side is playing incredibly well right now. The Heat have star players and momentum that will carry them into the match.
Bet on Brisbane to win.
