IRE vs NL Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Feb 17, 2019

The Oman Quadrangular T20 series 2019 is proving to be quite an exciting one as the teams continue to play their group matches. This is a tournament that must be difficult for Ireland to play in. They come in knowing that they are expected to win everything but they are not good enough to win all the matches. Every loss against an associate nation is going to be magnified now that Ireland is a test nation.

The loss against Scotland in the previous match makes this a very important game for Ireland. They are going to be playing against the Netherlands, a side that is unbeaten in the competition until now. The net run-rate for Ireland is also significantly worse than both Scotland and the Netherlands.

This is why Ireland must not only win this match handsomely but hope that Scotland loses its last group match against Oman. Otherwise, Ireland would need to win this match by such a big margin that they leapfrog the Netherlands in net run-rate and qualify irrespective of whether Scotland wins or loses.

IRE vs NL Team Previews

Ireland

Paul Stirling hit his second fifty of the Oman Quadrangular T20 2019 and got his side off to a brilliant start. Kevin O Brien also had a good match and the pair put on 115 in 11.4 overs before being separated. Ireland really should have got more than 200 from a base like that but the players to follow did not deliver.

Shane Getake and George Dockrell were the only two players to get into double figures after the openers had departed. Balbirnie, Tucker, Simi Singh, and the rest failed in an effort to the run rate high.

This batting performance has to be very deflating for Ireland. They just do not seem to have any depth in their side and the Netherlands will always know they are in the game. Get Stirling and Kevin O Brien out and Ireland may well fold.

Changing this around is not going to happen overnight. If Ireland had better players then they would in the playing eleven right now. The same set of players will have to take up the mantle and play with more responsibility.

Batting in a must-win situation under the pressure of scoring runs quickly could help free up the batters or cause a complete meltdown.

Simi Singh, Boyd Rankin, George Dockrell, and Peter Chase were poor in the previous game. They gave away too many freebies and allows Scotland to chase down a decent total with ease. The outlook does not seem too positive for Ireland and they must be worried about the future of their cricket.

Ireland Playing 11

PR Stirling, Kevin O'Brien, Andy Balbirnie, SR Thompson, Simi Singh, Shane Getkate, Stuart Poynter, George Dockrell, Joshua Little, WB Rankin, Peter Chase.

Netherlands

A second comprehensive victory for the Netherlands sees them at the top of the table and very well placed to play the final. They would need to lose spectacularly to be knocked out of contention, something which has happened in the past, though.

The Netherlands has been the best batting unit of the Oman Quadrangular T20 up until now. Stephan Myburgh, Tobias Visee, Ben Cooper, and Ryan Ten Doeschate have been in very good form. All the four players got runs against Oman in the previous game and will be in good touch.

Tobias Visee has been a bit of a revelation for the Netherlands. He was instrumental to their win against Scotland as well. His power and ability clear the boundaries make him very dangerous.

We think the Netherlands definitely has the better batting lineup even though Ireland is a test nation. The experience of Ryan Ten Doeschate in the middle order is a big factor in their success as well. The real test for the side will come if it loses a couple of early wickets.

Is there enough depth in the Netherlands side to overcome a top-order collapse? We don’t think so.

The bowling also looks to be in good shape thanks to Roelof van der Merwe, Shane Snater, Paul van Meekeren, and Fred Klaasen. There is no doubt in our minds that Roelof van der Merwe is going to be bowling in the powerplay in an effort to get early wickets against Ireland.

If the Netherlands does manage to get early wickets then that may well be the game.

Netherlands Playing 11

Pitch and Conditions

The Oman Quadrangular T20 series 2019 match between Ireland and the Netherlands is going to be played at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground Oman Cricket (Ministry Turf 1), Al Amarat, Oman. The weather is expected to be clear and excellent for cricket.

The pitch has hardened up a bit and actually become better for batting. That will hopefully remain the case for the remaining few matches as well. We think a score of around 170-180 can be considered par here.

IRE vs NL Betting Tips

How many times has it happened that an associate nation is the bookmakers favorite while heading into a match? The Netherlands is definitely the favorite in this encounter, though. They have players in form, a better batting lineup, and less pressure to play under. T20 is not Ireland’s favorite format and we suspect they are going to have a bitter taste in their mouth at the end of this match as well.

Back the Netherlands to win.
