ENG vs SL Match Prediction - Nov 05, 2022

We are now at the end of the group stages in the T20 World Cup 2022 and places for the semi-finals are getting locked up. England can make it into the semis by winning this match. There is no net run rate calculation to consider or anything else. A loss or a rained-out match would allow Australia to qualify.

Sri Lanka has no chance of making it into the semis and the Asia Cup 2022 Champions are no longer in the running.

The weather forecast for Sydney is fantastic and so the rain gods are not going to save Australia here. All the best cricket betting sites have England as the favorite to win this match but we have seen a number of upsets and close misses so far. Can Sri Lanka do Australia a huge favor in this next match?

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for England vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup 2022. The match will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney on the 5th of November 2022.

ENG vs SL Team Previews

England was close to its best in the previous match as it won comprehensively against New Zealand. Jos Buttler and Alex Hales got runs and the team showed a lot of flexibility in their batting lineup. Perhaps the biggest problem that was facing England in its previous matches was an inability to get the most out of its batting lineup. With a clearer vision of what players need to do, England will be all the more dangerous.

Jos Buttler and Alex Hales will be key in this match against Sri Lanka. We think they will be attacked a lot with spin and so the role of Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, and Harry Brook could be quite crucial as well. England's batting lineup is very strong and very deep but as we have seen in this tournament already, it is not infallible.

Sam Curran has 9 wickets to his name and has been the most successful bowler for England so far. His ability to bowl in the powerplay and in the death makes him invaluable. No wickets for Adil Rashid so far is a concern for England. The extra pace of Mark Wood could also pay dividends against the Sri Lankan lineup.

England Playing 11

Jos Buttler, AD Hales, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Dawid Malan, Chris Woakes, AU Rashid, Mark Wood.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka no longer has a chance of making it to the semi-finals and we think that is a fair indication of the kind of cricket they have played. Sri Lanka lost to Namibia and has not beaten any of the top-ranked teams in the Super-12 either. It did have some good moments against New Zealand and Australia but on both occasions, Sri Lanka let the games slip.

Sri Lanka has disappointed in the tournament with its batting. Bhanuka Rajapaksa has played cameos, Pathum Nissanka has failed when it matters, and Dasun Shanaka cannot seem to buy a run. Kusal Mendi and Dhananjaya de Silva are the two batters that have shown some good form.

The bowling for Sri Lanka has not been much better either. Wanindu Hasaranga has 13 wickets but almost all of those wickets have come against the lower-ranked teams. He was punished against Australia and did not have much success against New Zealand either.

Still, Hasaranga and Theekshana are the two bowlers that could end up doing something special in this match.

Sri Lanka Playing 11

Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka, Wanidu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, Kasun Rajitha.

ENG vs SL Toss Prediction

There have been five matches played in Sydney so far and all of them have been won by the team that has batted first. We think the captain that wins the toss will look to bat first as well.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather forecast for Sydney is quite good. There does not seem to be any real threat of rain. The pitch is going to be interesting. We saw a slightly slow surface when Pakistan played South Africa and if that is the case then Sri Lanka will have a slight advantage.

Of course, the bounce is still more than what you see in Asian conditions and England's bowlers will back themselves to make the most of it.

A score of around 170 should be seen as par for the surface.

ENG vs SL Betting Tips

We are going to back England to win this match. The recent dominance of England over Sri Lanka is no fluke. England is a much better team no matter how you look at it. With a semi-final place at stake, the pressure will be on and there could be some nerves but we think England's superior resources will allow it to win.

Bet on England to win.

Mark Wood and Wanindu Hasaranga to Take a Wicket (Betway Boost)

We like this betting market. Mark Wood is always going to ask difficult questions with his relentless pace and Wanindu Hasaranga might enjoy the slowish surface in Sydney. Worth a punt.
