AUS vs WI Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Oct 05, 2022
Australia and West Indies will play each other in two T20 internationals ahead of the T20 World Cup, now just a few days away. The two-match series does not have any relevance in isolation but ahead of the T20 World Cup, this is an important contest to consider. Both teams will want to test out their combinations and just shake the rust off ahead of the crucial contest.
West Indies arrives in a bit of typical turmoil as Shimron Hetmyer missed his flight and has now been ruled out of the T20 World Cup as well.
The cricket betting sites have Australia as the clear favorite for this contest although it is worth noting that West Indies has an excellent record against Australia in this format.
Match prediction and cricket betting tips for Australia vs West Indies 1st T20 2022. The match will be played at the Carrara Oval, Queensland on the 5th of October 2022.
AUS vs WI Team Previews
Australia lost its most recent series against India but it gave a very tough fight even without four of its first-choice players being available. All of those players are available for selection for this series against the West Indies. Also, the loss to India was Australia's first T20 series loss since 2021 (during which it also won the T20 World Cup).
Picking the right combination is going to be a challenge for Australia. Cameron Green played brilliantly against India and has certainly given Australia something to think about. We still expect Finch and Warner to open the inning but Steve Smith's position could be under a lot of threat.
Australia's biggest strength is its batting strength. There is a lot of depth, power, and raw six-hitting potential. You could potentially have Finch, Warner, Marsh, Smith, Maxwell, Wade, David, and Cummins lining up for the first match.
That is genuine batting ability till number 8. Even Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc can smack the ball if needed.
The bowling attack is well settled. With a number of all-rounders, Australia can pick its best four bowlers (Starc, Zampa, Hazelwood, and Cummins) and get the fifth bowler's quota from a combination of Maxwell, David, and Marsh.
This is a serious lineup with all bases covered.
Australia Playing 11
David Warner, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Tim David, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.
West Indies will take heart from the fact that it has won four out of the six T20 matches it has played against Australia since 2021. However, all four of those victories were back in the West Indies. Beating Australia in Australia is a whole different task altogether.
West Indies is led by Nicholas Pooran and is coming into this series just after the CPL. That means performances from the CPL will be given a lot of importance and that is probably why Shamarh Brooks was picked as a replacement for Shimron Hetmyer. He is not really a like-for-like replacement, though, as Brooks likes to bat in the top-3 and Hetmyer is one of the best middle-order players going around.
The West Indies also has a lot of excellent batters. Brandon King is in good form, the experienced Evin Lewis is back in the fold, and Kyle Mayers has developed into a genuine all-rounder. Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran will be integral to the batting lineup with a number of hard-hitting all-rounders to follow.
The problem for the West Indies is likely to be getting its combination right, something the team has struggled with in the past, and also finding an effective bowling attack. Obed McCoy is the designated death bowler and Akeal Hosein is quite dependable but apart from that, all other bowlers can go for a lot of runs.
West Indies Playing 11
Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, Raymon Reifer, Odean Smith, Yannick Cariah, Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell.

Pitch and Conditions
The conditions in Queensland are expected to be a bit humid but the chance of rain is quite low. The average score at the Carrara Oval since 2019 is 157 but we think a par score here would be more. The game of T20 cricket has advanced and batters are taking more risks than before. Keeping that in mind, as well as the batting lineups for the two teams, something around 170 should be seen as par.
AUS vs WI Betting Tips
We are going to back Australia in this contest. They have the stronger team, there is no doubt about that, and while West Indies has some very dangerous players, it has a lot of unknowns to answer. Australia will be at full strength with a bowling attack that has no weak links and batting till number 9 or 10. In home conditions, we are happy to back this team to win more often than not.
Bet on Australia to win.
Bonus Cricket Bets
Australia showed in its series against India that its appraoch in the first six-overs was going to be nothing short of all guns blazing. With Warner and Marsh back, we don't think that is going to change. We are backing them to get a better score than the West Indies in the first 6 overs.
This is one of the best value bets that we could find for this match. It is not team based or individual based and so carries lesser risk by nature. Also, both Australia and England focus on six-hitting specially while playing and can hit 9-10 sixes per inning quite easily. This betting market is highly recommended.
